COC Substrates
Cyclic olefin copolymers (COC) are amorphous, transparent thermoplastics consisting of cyclic olefin monomers (norbornene) and linear olefins (ethene). COC is characterized by good biocompatibility, low water absorption, good chemical resistance, and high transparency in the deep UV region. It is therefore ideally suited for bioanalytical and chemical reactions in microfluidic chips, such as for analyzing parameters like blood gases, glucose or lactate concentrations, or for determining erythrocyte pressurization levels. COC offers optical properties comparable to PMMA and higher heat resistance than PC, as well as superior dimensional stability compared to PMMA and PC.
